Jace Medical Update

On December 10th, our son Jace will go through a surgery most grown adults never have to face. He will experience open-heart surgery to repair a hole in his heart that is limiting his growth and causing him negative side-effects that could ultimately cause him to suffer from worse heart disease. His heart is working hard to maintain his normal growth, but because the blood is mixing in his heart, he has not gained weight properly and suffers from a constant feeling of internal struggle for strength and breath. Like you or I trying to recover from a hard run and never being able to truly recover our feeling of being "at rest." We are told that for him to grow normally and have a chance at a normal life and childhood, we essentially have no choice but to consent to the surgery.
The surgery will be performed at Presbyterian Hospital, and we are pleased with the doctors and staff we have already met who will be caring for Jace. It is amazing how the Lord prepares your heart for the trials that come upon you when they seem to flow one after the other. We were shocked and frightened when Jace was admitted to the baby intensive care unit after he was born and wasn't breathing. We were overwhelmed when we discovered he needed hip surgery to repair his dislocated hips in hopes of one day allowing him to walk. We were floored when we discovered that he had a rare form of MD which would cause him to be weak all his life, and maybe have serious mobility issues anyway. And we were brought to our knees (and still are) when we discovered his heart problem required this kind of surgery to repair.
But through it all, the Lord has sustained us and guided us. Directed our thoughts and moved us from doctor to doctor, state to state, all the while blessing our lives through this year long journey with the precious little boy we grow more and more to love and cherish, even through the tears and struggles with doubt and fear.
As we prepare for the upcoming day of surgery, we ask that anyone who knows us, knows Jace, or even all those who don't, please pray that Jace will endure the pain and the violation to the integrety of his little body and that he will heal quickly and that all goes well during this time. We are so grateful for all those who have supported us and we could not ask for greater friends and family.
God's providence will be accomplished and no matter what happens, may He be glorified in our struggle, in Jace's life, and in the calling to Himself that his ordeal has accomplished in us.
Thank you all, and please check back for updates as we grow closer to the 10th.
